Thank you so much for coming to my site and for reading my very first blog post! This is my first post because I’ve had to keep our new company a secret until we made an official announcement. Well, here it is! I have created a company called Her Universe with my partner, The Araca Group, and together we will be making authentic, high quality merchandise for female sci-fi fans! I am sooooo excited to announce that we are joining forces with Lucasfilm to present you with the first Star Wars collection, just for her. Yes, you heard me right, apparel and accessories made exclusively for women and girls!
Four years ago, when I was cast as the voice of Ahsoka Tano, I scoured the Internet looking for female Star Wars merchandise and I was disheartened by the lack of product. I was told to buy a men’s size ” small ” because there weren’t enough women that would buy merchandise made specifically for them. How could that be? The number of female fans that share my love for this amazing universe is astonishing and, as I discovered, greatly under served. I started doing my research and I found that close to 50% of all Star Wars fans and sci-fi fans in general are women. I also read hundreds of comments from female fans begging for merchandise designed and made specially for them, and not something that was an afterthought made in pink. I decided that I was going to step up to the plate and be their voice. It’s time for fangirls to be heard, recognized and rewarded!
However, I need your help! We are not trying to take anything away from the guys but we are simply trying to share the spotlight. Please tell your family and friends to spread the word about Her Universe. We need to let everyone know that we are here. This is just the beginning and there are so many exciting things that we can do, but I can’t be your voice without your support. Please give me your thoughts, feedback, likes, dislikes and desires of what you would like to see. I will be updating and checking my blog, facebook page and twitter constantly. Our online store will be opening soon, and we will be selling our merchandise at several conventions this summer including San Diego Comic-Con, Celebration V and Dragon Con. I will be at these conventions and I look forward to meeting everyone!

PS- Above is a shirt that Dave Filoni designed for our line. I feel like I am Dave’s Padawan. Just like Plo Koon found Ahsoka, Dave found me and gave me this amazing opportunity to voice Ahsoka. I asked him to design a shirt to reflect their relationship. He even used his “Plo Kool” sign off to show that he approves!

Ashley, I couldn’t be happier with this promising new line of clothing and accessories! It’s been far too long in coming, but I’m grateful it’s happening. My frustration with trying to find Star Wars clothes that not only fit me, but aren’t stereotypically pink, purple, or some other shade of pastel, has been going on for 12 years. I noticed it right away when I first became a fan. You’ve articulated my disappointments and hopes perfectly! Thank you so much!
Also, I appreciate that you are 5’2″, as I am also 5’2″ and that has made looking for well-fitted shirts even MORE difficult. I really just want to thank you as much as possible. From what I’ve seen, the designs are gorgeous!
I’m so happy about this line! I’m a petite, 24 year old woman and for the past 15 years, I’ve been trying to find some feminine Star Wars clothing. I’ve ended up shopping in the children’s section more often than not. So I’m SUPER excited about this!
I would love to see a Princess Leia shirt (I mean, really…she’s the original Star Wars female!), and maybe some dresses or skirts in the collection? Jewelry would be neat, I would love to see some of those ideas

Hi Ashley! Thank you so much for being our voice! I am a teen and am having an extremely hard time finding star wars clothing that fit correctly. I would like to respectfully ask that if possible, we can try to do as much original saga as possible. Don’t get me wrong, the Clone Wars is really creative and well thought out, but I would LOVE to wear stuff from the original six. I also love the idea by Susan, “some dresses or skirts” since I would wear dresses and skirts all the time if I could! Thanks again! Can’t wait to check out your online store!!!

Oh wow. I just wanted to say… this is AWESOME. Finally someone will make decent stuff just for us. I mean, when I finally find a SW shirt design that I really like, it’s not in female sizes. Or it’s out of stock. Or whatever. It shouldn’t be that hard to be able to strut our fandom. BUT here you come, A NEW HOPE! Like a knight in shining robes… Oh alright, enough of that.

Hey Everyone! Thank you so much for your support and kind words about Her Universe! I’ve been getting a lot of questions about the sizing of our line. I wanted to make sure that we offer our shirts in a variety of sizes because every girls body is different and beautiful! Most shirts will be available in SM-XXL. I look forward to getting your feedback when our store opens!
Ditto to what igamu & Jennifer said. Approximately 40% of the US female population is size 14 or larger. Many shirts designed “for women” have an XL being a size 12 or smaller. Please make sure there are items friendly to all sizes. & I don’t mean just having larger sizes of the same design. For example, your way cool Plo-Ahsoka artwork… Having the big graphic all down the body is great on the smaller frame, not so on the fuller girl. Maybe scale the art down so it fits from just below the shoulder down to the upper chest – like a corsage. Time to channel your inner Tim Gunn & “Make it work!”
I am so excited about Her Universe. I’ll be thrilled not to have to dig around in the boys section at department stores to find cool Star Wars shirts that are not pink or sparkly. Not that I mind those things, but I’d love the chance to choose something different. The designs I’ve seen so far are amazing. Huge kudos to you. I can’t wait to buy the Ahsoka and Plo Kloon tee.

Ashley, I can’t stress enough how thankful I am for this merchandise line to become a reality! I have been a Star Wars fan since I was a child, and I’ve always wanted to showcase how much the series means to me. This is a problem, however, when there is little to no merchandise aimed at my gender. I’m looking forward to seeing what the online store has to offer! One thing I would love to see is a t-shirt featuring Princess Leia. She’s the original Star Wars bad ass babe, and I’ve had very little luck in finding any merchandise with her on it. Please help! The only female Star Wars shirts we have been able to carry are made by Junk Food. They are very nice but they only put out a few styles a year. Thanks!

I’m so excited that is is happening! i’ve been waiting and hoping for so long for this to actually happen! it’s about time that girls get cool stuff! i am also excited for the accessories that are yet to come out, will there be any faux earring studs? don’t forget those! please make a variety of them! either way, having bracelets, necklaces and earrings, bags and other stuff that have characters of designs that relate to the characters, will be awesome! i can’t wait to see how all this will unfold as time goes by.
Now that this is happening, I hope that the next thing that happens would be an actual Star Wars Store in malls or outside of shopping centers… so fans can actually go in person to buy things, instead of it just being online… that’s something i look forward to too….

I am so excited to hear this news! Growing up in the 70s/80s my brother got all the cool shirts, the sheets, and the pjs. Now I have a daughter (7) and son (5) who I have introduced to the Star Wars universe. We watch The Clone Wars together every week. My daughter is anxiously awaiting Padme or Ahsoka pjs. We can’t wait to see everything at Celebration V!

I like the Plo Koon and Ahsoka design very much! Will there be anything with my favorite clone, Captain Rex? I am a huge fan of his and I often purchase merchandise of his for my boys–and I hope to buy a shirt with him on it for myself! Thanks! This clothing line is a great idea.

As far as shirt designs go: Can we get something relatively SUBTLE, please? I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gotten a garish Star Wars T-shirt which I could not resist wearing for content, but which was made even more ludicrous and awful by being stretched out in places and not stretched out in other places that stretch / do not stretch, on, ah… dramatically-shaped ladies such as myself.
For instance: That title t-shirt you’ve got on there? It would turn into a comedy on me, and everybody would be way to amused to say anything. I’d only notice after I’d worn it enough times that the paint cracked.
It might help, for targeting women like me, if you close your eyes and imagine your design being worn by a person-sized coca-cola bottle.
(I know, I know: I’d have said “Pepsi”, but the analogy sort of falls down.)
Also: Hoodies and Jewelry, would be marvelous. Again: I personally am looking for subtle. I want to be able to smugly sneak this stuff past the cool kids’ table if I have to, but still be recognizable enough to make the fanboy radar go off. That… is what I want. If you can do that, you can pretty much have all my money.
Like Jaime, I am a full-figured mature fan, but I am excited by the chance to wear Star Wars shirts featuring more feminine designs.
I’ve been a Star Wars fan since I saw the first commercials for the original movie. I happen to have female Star Wars clothing because I bought Star Wars printed fabrics and a pattern and had shirts made for me. It’s never bothered me to wear men’s Star Wars clothing in the past. However, I am really looking forward to seeing Star Wars fashions for women. Like some of the others have already stated, I would love to see some clothing aimed at the fuller figured woman. I will certainly be planning to buy something while I’m at Celebration V.
I would love to see lightsaber oriented jewelry, and speederbike designs. Or X-wing fighters. Or Luke.

This is really great. I am really happy that finally i can buy my gf something other then the pink princess leya t-shirt of starwars.com when her b-day is coming up in July. THOUGH as usual sins i live in Norway i will most probably have to wait longer then the US fans to get my hands on the products. When will they be up for international sales?
i saw the trailer for season 3 (it was completely epic XD) but i think u should do a shirt of ahsoka in one of her nightmares and have it say star wars the clone wars season 3 on the back or something and i also wanna say i hope ahsoka doesn’t die in season 3 cuz she’s like my fav character and i heard ppl say she is, it makes me sad

This is awesome! Just last night my wife and I were at Old Navy with our 5 yr old son looking for a new SW shirt for each of us for our upcoming trip to SW Weekends @ Disney. In my wife’s case, similar to like you said in your blog post, she bought a youth boy’s shirt. As we left the store, she was satisfied with her find, but still put it out there that she’d like for me to scour the web a bit to see if there is something cool deigned for women. Too bad forbus in the short term that the line won’t launch until after our trip in May, but I’m still extremely happy with your announcement of this line!

Just yesterday I was thinking about how there isn’t enough clothing, or merchandise for that matter, for the female Star Wars fans such as myself. Even when I do find a shirt (which is rare) it’s usually a really loud Original Trilogy shirt. I’d like to see a variety of characters featured, some from EU and some from the movies and shows. So far, the t-shirts I’ve seen look absolutely amazing! I can’t wait to see further designs.

Finally. You can’t even get a descent Padme t-shirt. I hope this means the female characters will get some stuff too. I have a couple Amidala shirts I got by raiding the girls large size after a Phantom Menace but after that…zilch! We haven’t seen one with Padme and Anakin since Attack of the Clones! I’m eager to see the new look.
I TOTALLY agree with Ahsoka Wanna Be! Star Wars rocks! Pretty much the only t-shirts that I wear are some guys’ Star Wars t-shirts that my parents got me for Christmas. And I must say, the lightsaber lip gloss sounds awesome.

I am SO excited. I would especially love it if there’s some more subtle stuff–Mandalorian/Imperial/Rebel symbols and the like–as well as character shirts!
Absolutely pumped for this line to come out. When you express that the line comes out “soon”, how soon?? Also would like to put in a little push for the small sizes, as it seems that the plus ladies have already made their case. I’m 5’5″ & 108lbs., & at 30 y/o when a Gap XS shirt looks like maternity clothing on me, it’s really depressing. Please represent my size group as well. A child’s size might fit me around, but not necessarily length-wise. Looks like you, Ashley, might be in the same size group, so maybe you know exactly what I mean. Keep up the good work!!

At LAST! A girls clothes line!!! (And yes, I’m a girl. My friends just call me Luke.) I’ve only known Star Wars for barely a year, but I’ve totally fallen in love with it! Head-over-heals! REALLY lovin’ the Luke shirt!
I have a friend who told me about this and I was thinking of a shirt just for her! On a sunset-like shirt have black figures of Padawan Anakin and Padme’ JUST about to kiss from the scene of Geonosis when they are going into the arena! And on the back write: Forbidden Love. And could we have some Han shirts? Who doesn’t love a scoundrel?

This is great, really great. I hope that you will also be making products for those of us who also like Star Trek, Futurama, Red Dwarf, and other awesome Sci Fi shows/movies/books.
I have another idea to offer for a shirt! Have it a black shirt (doesn’t really matter what color) and have Anakin and Ahsoka have their backs pressed together and their only showing wrists in cuffs. And on the top have Ahsoka most famous saying: “You’re stuck with me Skyguy.”
